FMB GmbH acquires Oxford Danfysik

Good news for the synchrotron community

FMB GmbH is pleased to announce the acquisition of Oxford Danfysik Beamlines Ltd. Both companies have served the synchrotron community for many years but have specialized in different product ranges. FMB has been able to extend its reach into the beamlines market from a long history in precision machining and joining technologies. In recent years FMB has been the leading supplier of complex storage ring vacuum vessels and front end components, but has also delivered a number of complete experimental beamlines operating mainly at IR and soft x-ray wavelengths. Oxford Danfysik has developed a broad range of high performance products suited to beamlines operating at shorter wavelengths, and has also delivered a number of turnkey beamlines. Combined, the two companies will be able to offer an impressive and unmatched range of products to a rapidly growing customer base.

Uwe Schneck, joint Managing Director of FMB, said: ‘After a number of years of growth in the synchrotron market we were looking to expand into the hard x-ray sector. Each new market has its challenges and our customers rightly expect increasingly high performance beamline systems capable of exploiting the quality of the latest generation of photon sources. We were delighted to have the opportunity to move into this new area by acquiring one of the leading suppliers. We intend to continue operations from the sites in Berlin and Oxford but expect our customers to benefit quickly from the obvious complementary skills in manufacturing and design available from our very experienced and now expanded workforce.’

Bjarne Roger Nielsen, Managing Director of Danfysik A/S said: ‘The offer for our Beamlines business came at a time when we were refocusing and strengthening our efforts into particle accelerators for Healthcare, Industrial and our Research  customers, including the synchrotron light source market. FMB and Oxford Danfysik make ideal partners and the combination will without doubt be the leading supplier in their market. Under our ownership we have developed Oxford Danfysik to a highly reputed and significant player in the synchrotron beamlines market, and I am confident that FMB under its ownership will carry this successfully forward.’
