Projects Adlershof - A² Accelerator Berlin - A² Smart City 2018

A² Accelerator „Smart City 2018“

The Challenges to a Smart City

“The way future cities work will differ from today’s cities. We need to start today to find novel solutions for living and working, infrastructure and mobility as well as energy and resources. The city of the future will be a liveable city, where climate protection and sustainability play a role as will the use of new, interconnected technologies. We will only succeed if we take a holistic view of the city of the future. Then and only then will future cities become intelligent cities.”
Ramona Pop, Mayor and Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Berlin – Patron of the A² Adlershof Accelerator “Smart City”

Like many other large cities in the world, Berlin faces great challenges: the city is growing, becoming more densely populated and its population is ageing. Berlin is undergoing profound structural changes.

The city of the future will be an intelligent city – a smart city. Smart technology will play a major part in confronting the ecological, social, economic and cultural challenges of growing metropolitan areas and in finding comprehensive, interdisciplinary solutions.

Our A² Accelerator “Smart City” wants to make a start where future innovation is already visible today: energy, smart buildings, communication, IT and security. The Science and Technology Park Berlin Adlershof offers start-ups the unique opportunity to test LoRaWAN -based applications together with our programme’s industrial partners. Berlin Adlershof boasts its own water, wastewater, gas and electricity grid, which is an ideal “micro-urban laboratory” for testing smart city applications. The focus will be on sensor technology.

The Key Areas of the A² Accelerator Smart City

[Translate to English:] Schwerpunkte Adlershof Accelerator

We are looking for start-ups who work specifically on smart city issues, who work on the interface to those issues, or who provide auxiliary services.

Do you provide a product or service that is not geared specifically towards this application, but you are convinced it can create added value? Please convince us, too, with your application.

The Programme

[Translate to English:] Programmablauf Adlershof Accelerator

During the 5-month programme, the focus of the A² Accelerator is on pilot projects created by the start-ups and our industrial partners. Simultaneously, you will work on relevant product, company and industry-specific issues in tailored subject blocks. Our partners include

  • PwC PricewaterhouseCoopers GmbH
  • Osborne Clarke, an international law firm for business law

You will have the opportunity to determine the consulting services you require.

Our programme comprises a well-balanced mix of theory, practice and networking. You will have enough time to take care of your daily business. The programme’s aim is for you to apply your acquired expertise to your product, or service, and to work together with the industrial partners and coaches towards improving it.

The A² Accelerator programme provides you with industrial partners, who provide you with insight into their particular skills environment, unlock access to their data and customer base, provide you with someone who is permanently at your disposal, and jointly implement pilot projects. This will help you to not only better understand the industry, but also to better adjust your product to its respective market requirements and, ideally, to improve it.

Moreover, you will receive coaching on all important aspects of business leadership by successful founders and coaches. This high-quality package creates an added value for our participants that will set them apart from the competition. The training and coaching programme comprises 3-4 joint subject blocks that each last two days and 2-3 individual consulting services according to your start-up’s needs. The entire duration of the programme is 5 months. Timeframe of the project: end of August 2018 until beginning of January 2019.
