They just want to play
Not even Brexit could pull us apart. However, I have recently found myself more and more inclined to swap my long-standing country crush for a new favourite. The blame goes to a short detour on public television, where the two hosts of a satirical TV show venture out to find a fully digital government. A country where the high hopes for seamless internet, paperless administration, and an interconnected education system have become a reality. What can I say? I am now in love with Estonia.
Even though our neighbours are far ahead in terms of the digital transformation of their society, there is no need to shy away from comparison in terms of smart minds in IT as well as excellent research and development. In this issue of Adlershof Journal, we will introduce you to the thought leader, policy advisor, founder, and co-director of the new quantum hub “Leap Berlin”, Manouchehr Shamsrizi, who is also a fan of gaming both in the digital and the real world. The chip designers at Synogate came in through play and ended up wanting more. While they come from a shared background in game development, they now provide their clients with tailor-made integrated circuits for computers, smartphones, and co. Their vision is to develop security solutions in network technology that foster European independence.
Experts see enormous opportunities and an equally huge need for the use of digital applications in the healthcare sector. This is where NOVENTI Care comes into play, a company that has developed software that already supports 1,500 care agencies in Germany in their everyday work. In the field of energy generation, too, it is possible to enormously accelerate tedious processes. Janine George, a young research group leader at BAM, Germany’s materials testing institute, is on the hunt for new materials for the energy transition using simulations and machine learning.
Many are currently discussing which human skills could soon be replaced by artificial intelligence. What about creativity? We asked the psychologist Jennifer Haase what she thinks. The answer was astounding.
Sincerely,
Peggy Mory

News in short
Aluminium bridge successfully lifted into place over Adlergestell
A new 74-metre bridge for pedestrians and bikes was lifted into place across the Adlergestell, one of the main roads in Adlershof, in late January 2024. The bridge will become a component of the interregional footpath and cycle path network and the green corridor connecting the local recreation areas “Landscaped Park Johannisthal” in the south and “Köllnische Heide” in the north. For the first time in Berlin, a bridge structure of this size is being realised in aluminium. Due to the high corrosion resistance of the material, the bridge is practically maintenance-free. Its construction was managed by WISTA.Plan on behalf of the State of Berlin. It is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in the third quarter of 2024.
