Competition "Rethinking freedom" (Deadline: 31 August 2024)
AI is developing rapidly and challenging research and science, industry and civil society alike to innovate and develop. The correlations between artificial intelligence and freedom are manifold and range from questions of personal autonomy and privacy to ethical and economic aspects as well as governmental regulation.

We are inviting students and young scientists from all fields of research from Berlin and the surrounding area to apply on the topic of "Rethinking Freedom" with their project ideas and drafts that have not yet been implemented.
We are looking forward to project ideas that address the following questions:
- How does the use of artificial intelligence affect our freedom?
- Can artificial intelligence protect our freedom, or does it harbour dangers?
- What specific applications and solutions exist in the area between scientific research on artificial intelligence and freedom?
- What significance does the use of artificial intelligence have for civil society?
Who can take part?
- Bachelor and master students from various fields of research
- Young academics
- Young scientists from the start-up scene
- You can apply as an individual or as a team
What can be submitted?
- A written out, not yet implemented project ideas and drafts which deal with a relevant aspect of the competition topic.
- In what form can the project idea be submitted?
- Contributions can be submitted in German and English.
- Submission is only possible via application form.
- The topic should be clearly stated.
- Indication of names, contacts and institutions of all participants is required.
- The project description should not exceed 1,000 characters (including spaces).
Deadline for submission: 31/08/2024, 18:00
A competent jury of independent experts from science and research will evaluate the submissions after the deadline regarding the following criteria:
- Comprehensibility
- Applicability
- Innovative approach
- Scientific character
- Sustainability
All submissions will receive a detailed jury feedback. The finalists will be contacted separately at the end of September 2024 to prepare their work for the A0 sized posters.

The results of the competition and the finalists will be announced by 30 September 2024 via e-mail.
